Rain & waterresistant
The outer shell on our products are made of tear resistant rip-stop nylon. Our jackets and skirts are DWR coated (Durable water repellent) to stand rainy conditions. Minimum for garment to be categorised as rain resistant is 2000 mm water pillar. Uhip clothes resist between 3-10 000 mm caterpillars, which corresponds to rain during 1-2 hours for the most resistant of our garments.
The (DWR) coating is made to ensure the garment keep the water out but let go of moist from the inside when you get warm during your activity. The balance between water resistance and transportation of moist is a delicate problem with clothes for outdoor activities.
The rip stop nylon is constructed to stand harsh conditions.
Light, soft and smooth
Our fabrics are also CIRE coated to enhance the smooth and soft feeling when wearing our clothes. It also adds some rain protection.
No down from animals
We have chosen synthetic/microfibres down for our products. It keeps you warm also in wet and moisture conditions, in contradiction to down from animals. Synthetic down is as warm as other traditional down, but dries in no time. Synthetic down is built up in thin layers that create air pockets, which in turn creates an very warm insulation as the body heat is stored in the small pockets. Our lining is called Sorona and is made by Dupont.
Durable Water Repellent treatment (non-toxic)
To make a fabric water resistant, we use a so-called DWR treatment on the fabric (Durable Water Repellant coating). There are different types of DWR coatings, but the most commonly used today is a fluorocarbon treatment, a very large group of organic substances used in many different contexts for its special features. It makes the clothes resist water, dirt and also have some temperature resistance.
We don’t use any animal down feathers in our garments.
Dupont is world-leading producer of nylon, Teflon etc. Their Sorona is a renewable material that is extracted to 37% from plants instead of being completely petroleum-based like other nylon and polyester.
Manufacturing also uses 30% less energy than normal nylon and emits 63% less greenhouse gases.
Dupont is the 2015 Bio Business Award winner for its groundbreaking biotechnology!
Sorona See keeps you warm even when your clothes get wet, as the fibres has a warming feature and yet resist moist.
We are using Sorona in most garments, a feather like isolating fabric Dupont that could be found in jackets, sleeping bags etc from many major brands. The isolation is built up by an advanced technology called Soron See and in our products you will find them in the “Pro” and “Micro” version. They are built up of the very fine fibres to create the warmest and softest feeling possible. The thin fibres create small air pockets to hold the body heat.

We love wool. For us it has been given to choose wool for our base layer and mid layer products.
Wool has certain outstanding characteristics – it warms when needed and cool off when that is needed. When you get sweaty or wet, wool still keeps you warm. For the new midlayer jackets (2017 collection) we have found a new material similar to feather – wooldown! It makes the garment smooth, light, breathable and very thin which makes it a perfect companion for outdoor activities. In the base layers we have chosen mulesang free merino wool, it feels like cotton, but has the great functionalities that comes with wool.
