100 % down free insulation
We at Uhip love animals and nature. For this reason, we have chosen to be 100% down free. This means that we do not use any down from birds in our coats and jackets, but instead use a synthetic down. Below you can read more about what we love most about them and why we chose these insulations.
CLO Pluma
CLO Pluma is an insulation made from 100% recycled polyester, found only in our Igloo family. This insulation feels light and incredibly soft. It's like wrapping yourself in a cosy blanket when you put on a coat with this insulation. CLO Pluma is made in ultra-fine microfibres that forms air pockets, which is what creates the light and soft feeling, but it is also an incredibly important part of creating the ability for the garment to breathe, maintain body heat and keep out cold air. A coat or jacket with too few or dense lofts (where air pockets accumulate) loses its warmth and doesn't breathe as well.
This insulation can be found in our Igloo Coat and Igloo Coat Extended winter coats and our Igloo Puffer Jacket.
Sorona Fibre
This insulation is used in the majority of our outerwear. Sorona fibre is plant-based and is therefore a very good alternative for nature. Since it is also completely down free, it is also kind to the birds. This insulation, like CLO Pluma, has plenty of air pockets in the loft to allow the garments to breathe, retain body heat and keep out the cold. This insulation also feels soft, light and as warm as bird's down.
This insulation is available in the Frost, Nordic, Ice, Urban Stretch and 365 families, among others.
Lavalan
Lavalan is an insulation made from wool and polyactide, which is made from maize starch. The wool has of course been produced mulesing-free and is also traceable, so you can see exactly which sheep contributed to which jacket or coat. This type of natural thermal insulation is strong and warm, but with air pockets that, like our other insulations, help retain body heat and keep the cold out. Wool is a lightweight insulation that requires a relatively small amount to create high levels of warmth.

Answer: The warmth of our synthetic down is as warm as bird's down.
Are you mulesing-free?
Answer: Of course!
Does synthetic down clump when exposed to moisture and rain?
Answer: No! Synthetic down, unlike bird's down, does not clump when it comes into contact with moisture. This is very important for us, as what happens when down clumps is that the thermal capacity drops significantly.
