2024-06-26

Ellen Hedbys rides for the Swedish U25 dressage team. She is originally from Stockholm and now live with her family on a small horse farm outside Höllviken, in the south of Sweden.

Tell us a little about yourself

I’m Ellen Hedbys, a 23-year-old dressage rider competing at U25 level for the Swedish national team. My family consists of my mom and dad, lots of horses, and just as many dogs! Right now, I’m in Germany for training and competitions with two of my horses. Last week, I competed in Lier, Belgium, and in a few weeks, I’ll be heading to Aachen for my next event.

How long have you been riding?

I started with riding lessons at the age of three, began riding at a riding school when I was six, and got my first pony when I was ten.

What does a typical day look like for you?

There’s no such thing as a typical day for me! Every day is different, and now that I’m in Germany, my routine is even more varied. But no matter where I am, my days always include lots of riding, stable work, spending time with my horses, long dog walks, and, of course, fika! I am Swedish, after all…

What has been your biggest personal achievement in equestrian sports?

- Competing in 17 Swedish Championships, earning 8 medals

- 4 Nordic Championships with 6 medals

- 1 European Championship with a team bronze in Young Riders

- Receiving the Ajax Scholarship in 2022

- Training my U25 horse, Sonnenkönigin, from novice to Grand Prix

- Scoring a personal best of 73% in top-level dressage – an unforgettable moment that was also one of my final rides with my amazing Quentin, who sadly passed away last year.

What motivates you in the sport?

The bond with the horses and the constant pursuit of perfection and harmony. There’s nothing quite like working with horses that truly enjoy their job.

What’s your best advice for someone dreaming of a successful career in equestrian sports?

Surround yourself with people who are better than you. That’s the fastest and most natural way to learn!

What are your future goals and dreams?

The big championships! The ultimate dream? The Olympics, of course!

How do you prepare for a competition?

Train, train, train. Pack, polish, plan.

What are your favorite Uhip products?

Oh, I absolutely LOVE my Igloo Coat Extended Dark Navy! I practically live in it during the winter. Whether I’m walking my dogs, working in the stable, strolling along the beach, at a competition, or even in town, it’s always my go-to when it’s even the slightest bit chilly. I honestly don’t know how I survived before I had it!

My new long Hailey Coat is my favorite for spring and summer! The weather is so unpredictable right now, so I take it everywhere. I also love how stylish it looks – it fits beautifully even when layering up underneath. And, of course, I can’t forget my blue 365 Jacket – it keeps me warm while still giving off those fresh summer vibes with its gorgeous color!
